The Sister School Exchange is a unique, experiential program that promotes understanding among Alaska’s urban and rural communities through cross-cultural exchanges for middle and high school students. Funded by the U.S. Department of Education’s Alaska Native Education Program, the Sister School Exchange has operated across the state of Alaska for the last fifteen years.
During the program, a teacher and five students from an off-the-road-system community are matched with a teacher and five students from urban Alaska. The Sister School teams work through a 6-8 week standards-aligned curriculum on cross-cultural understanding. The teams then complete a two way exchange, during which each team spends a week living in their Sister School community.
This 2016-2016 school year ANCCS has been teamed up with Yakutat for the Sister School program. Yakutat will visit our school February 14th-21st and we will visit Yakutat May 1st-8th. Student applications for the program are due on October 27th. Interviews will be held the 28th-30th.
